A FUNERAL IN FENTRESS COUNTY

  • When HOL’s (they / them) estranged father Ricky dies unexpectedly, they must return to Fentress County, Tennessee for his funeral, a place they’ve been avoiding since middle school. Hol wants to get in and out of town as fast as they can, but once there, Hol reconnects with the family and friends they used to know so well, and Hol realises that by hiding from their family all these years, they’ve been missing out on them. Hol also begins to suspect there’s more to Ricky’s death than the police are letting on and more than their own family will admit. Hol needs to know the truth, so they decide to stay in Fentress County to find out the truth for themself.

  • When environmental scientist JAMIE gets unfairly fired from her prestigious D.C. lobbying fellowship, she is forced to move back in with her mom in Knoxville, Tennessee. Jamie wallows in defeat and disdain for her hometown until an activist nun and gay barista recruit her into their revolutionary group and their current mission to expose a local restaurateur’s water pollution. This gives Jamie a much-needed taste of purpose, but what she doesn’t know yet is that this is only the first in a web of corruption and pollution targets that permeates the local government, the state, and may even reach some of Jamie’s old friends in D.C.
